This 220-card set was issued by Pinnacle in two series and was distributed in eight-card packs. For the first time, the series was licensed by the NHL, as well as the NHLPA, and thus the players were allowed to be seen in their own uniforms. Promotional cards were issued to dealers in six-card and two-card packs. These cards mirror those in the regular set save for the addition of the word PROMO written on the card back. The numbering, however, is the same as the base cards. The P prefix has been added for checklist purposes only.
Randomly inserted at an approximate rate of 1:2 packs, cards from this 20-card set featured ten top rookie standouts matched with their 10 mega-star veteran counterparts. The first five rookie "Links" appeared in Series I with the second five veteran "Links" and featured silver foil with blue accents. The second five rookie "Links" appeared in Series II with the first five veteran "Links" and featured silver foil with red accents.
An authentic autograph and gold foil on each card front make these parallel cards easy to identify from their more common Link to History counterparts. Exact odds per pack were not released, but they're significantly tougher to pull than the non-autographed cards. Because of a delayed return, Ethan Moreau's cards were inserted in Series II packs only; Teemu Selanne's autographed cards replaced them in Series I packs. A silver parallel version of the autograph was also created. The cards were distinguishable by the silver foil backing on the card fronts. Although no odds were published, these cards were inserted at a rate of about 1:30 packs.
