The 1996-97 SP set was issued in one series totaling 188 cards. 8 -card packs. Printed on 20 pt. card stock, this set featured color action photos of 168 regular players from all 26 NHL teams and included a subset of 20 premier prospects. The backs carried player information and statistics. The Gretzky promo was distributed to dealers; it mirrored the regular issue save for the word SAMPLE written across the back.
